Bike, Hike, and Paddle

From January of 1996 to October of 2008, this site was called "Chuck's Backpacking Bonanza" and was hosted on AOL until they ceased such hosting. Over the years, I expanded the site to include much more than only backpacking, so the name is now Bike, Hike, and Paddle. Enjoy my efforts!

Canon City, Colorado's Arkansas Riverwalk Trail

The Arkansas Riverwalk Trail winds for nearly 7 miles along the Arkansas River as it meanders through the heart of downtown Cañon City. The crushed gravel trail later passes through cottonwoods and wetlands as it leaves town on an old railroad bed and runs through John Griffin Regional Park, where you'll also find the Bluff Trail.  Parking for the trail is available at Centennial Park on Griffin Avenue in Cañon City.

This whitewater course is also seen along a section of the trail.

The Riverfront Recreation Area Trailhead is located just east of 4th Street. It will take you west into Centennial Park or east to 9th Street. There is also a boat launch in this location and a handicap fishing pier.

The trail also passes this high ropes obstacle course (the first I've ever seen along the nearly 300 trails I've biked)......

Of course, the scenery along the trail is spectacular...

The trail has a hard-packed, crushed gravel surface and follows an old railroad bed much of the way.

You also pass the railroad station from which the Royal Gorge scenic excursion train departs.
