Bike, Hike, and Paddle

From January of 1996 to October of 2008, this site was called "Chuck's Backpacking Bonanza" and was hosted on AOL until they ceased such hosting. Over the years, I expanded the site to include much more than only backpacking, so the name is now Bike, Hike, and Paddle. Enjoy my efforts!

Mary Carter Greenway (from Chattfield Reservoir)

The Mary Carter Greenway (also called Arapahoe Greenway) travels 8 miles along the South Platte River from Chatfield State Park (Reservoir) north to Englewood where it meets the Platte River Trail at west Dartmouth Avenue. It is named for Mary Carter who led the South Suburban Park Foundation in the 1980s.  You'll also pass a whitewater boating area on the river.

Traffic circles (roundabouts) are found at many trail mergers...

Along the way you'll find rest areas, interpretive sites, and landscaping that has won numerous national awards, including the American Planning Association's Doing More with Less award, for its rehabilitation of the once neglected corridor.

The trail is well-marked with signage...

...and underpasses provide safety from traffic at major roads...

As seen in these photos, the trail is very scenic...

This section of trail runs through Littleton which suffered a raging flood on June 16, 1965. This catastrophe is commemorated by these two signs:

"Moon Dance" is a 1997 sculpture by Kevin Robb that adorns the trail...

...and here is another sculpture...
